We are each gloriously unique and function best when we allow ourselves to be balanced. This extends to choices about food, exercise and anything else. Strict diets, unrealistic fitness goals and trends that require major restrictions just don’t work for most people. So that’s not how I work.
Through my own experiences I know and understand the journey my clients will be taking – coming from a background of a stressful media jobs, working long hours, feeling exhausted and anxious, I have experienced first-hand how diet and lifestyle changes can make a huge difference to health and wellbeing.
I am a fully qualified and insured nutritional therapist, registered with both BANT and CNCH, the UK’s governing bodies for complementary practitioners.
I studied at the College of Naturopathic Medicine to gain my diploma and have completed the foundation module with the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM). Functional Medicine is a science-based approach that focuses on uncovering underlying causes of imbalances that prevent good health. It can be adapted for anyone, to reflect their unique makeup, body and lifestyle. It’s balanced, it’s science-driven and I’m passionate about sharing what I know with my clients.
My approach
When working with clients I always believe in food first as there’s usually so much we can achieve with dietary alterations alone, and here’s a few pointers at the core of my practice:
Enjoy
Restricting certain foods or feeling guilty when we eat ‘badly’ means food controls us, rather than allowing us to find that balance. We’ll discover what ‘eating well’ means for your body and allowing you to enjoy food.
Make small changes
Find what works for you, from cooking batches of food you can eat all week or not skipping breakfast everyday. Small changes can build toward big differences if done in a way that you can maintain over weeks or months, so it is not overwhelming.
Only restrict when really necessary
There has been a big shift to ‘free from’ diets – gluten, dairy, meat-free. This works well for some and can make a real difference for someone with certain conditions. Whatever the case, I aim for variety and a balanced diet for each of my clients. It’s a great opportunity to try new foods and new ways to enjoy food. Eating nutritious food should feel like an adventure rather than a loss.
Keep it real
Real food is whole, unprocessed, from the ground, an animal or a plant. Cooking with raw ingredients whenever possible and ditching ready-made foods with long ingredients lists is a great way to give your body what it needs. Eating food that’s in season means it’s at its freshest, tastiest and packed with the most nutrients. Organic is a good choice (when possible, and affordable) and focus on fresh, quality ingredients.
